Our Lapsang Souchong is sourced from the tea farmer Mr. Liang Junde, whose family have been making Lapsang tea for centuries and are widely recognised in China. Many Lapsang Souchong teas are overly smokey, but we feel ours is extremely well balanced. It also pairs perfectly with peaty whiskys.

This particular Lapsang Souchong (Zheng Shan Xiao Zhong) was made by the famous Liang Junde, renowned for making traditional Lapsang Souchong black tea. He is also the inventor of Jin Jun Mei, one of China's most expensive black teas. Master Liang's family have been living and making Lapsang tea in this village in the mountains of Wuyi for 250 years. Thus, his skill and technical abilities in Lapsang black tea are wildly recognized and well-known in China. He is now 69 years old and getting ready to pass the business down to his son. The tea leaves come from the surrounding valley which is a UNESCO protected site and closed to foreigners.
This outstanding black tea is an authentic Lapsang Souchong from the farm where it was created over 400 years ago, in Tong Mu Village.
The famous smoky notes are achieved by smoking the leaves in the traditional artisan way over pine wood fires, using wood that comes from the surrounding valley. It is much lighter than a traditional 'tarry' lapsang which is made for foreign markets: this is the way it is made for the Chinese.
